Accountant


 

An opportunity has arisen in OCL for the position of Accountant tenable in Blantyre.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

The person will be responsible but not limited to the following:

a)         General Ledger Maintenance

  • Develops, introduces and supports a chart of accounts
  • Provide support and assistance to staff to ensure appropriate costing
  • Maintains and controls OCL’s General Ledger

 

b)         Management Accounting

  •  Prepares monthly management Accounts
  •  Prepare ad-hoc financial reports as the business require
  • Prepares variances reports, budget reviews and major project reports as and when required.
  • Prepares monthly ledger reconciliations.

 

c)         Treasury Management

  • Prepares daily cash flow and sales reports
  • Handles business banking activities and prepares bank reconciliation
  • Prepares bank reconciliation
  • Prepares and initiates salaries
  • Processes payment vouchers
  • Manages Petty Cash

 

d)         Fixed Asset Accounting

  • Updates Fixed Assets Register in the accounting systems.
  • Ensures asset-related transactions are properly captured
  • Capitalizes all closed projects to correct asset accounts.
  • Facilitates asset valuation and assets verification programs
  • Maintains fixed asset register which reconciles with general ledger.

 

e)         Revenue and Payable Management

  • Process invoices timely
  • Performs reconciliation of account receivable and payables.
  • Assists in financial audits and implements audit recommendations
  • Identifies and resolves outstanding balances on monthly basis.

 

f)          Budgeting

  •  Conducts assets impairment review in conjunction with Technical.
  •  Prepares and initiates salaries
  •  Processes payment vouchers
  •  Manages Petty Cash

 

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Professional accounting principles and practices
  • Preparations of annual budget/business plan
  • Filing VAT return, Excise duty payment and fringe benefits quarterly return.
  • Management of Trial balances
  • Organizational and Time Management skills
  • Report writing and production of various employee returns

 

Qualifications

  • Suitable candidate should have Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy and Finance or its equivalent. 
  • Three years’ experience in Finance Department.
