EQUITY WITH QUALITY AND LEARNING AT SECONDARY SCHOOL(EQUALS) PROJECT
The Government of Malawi with funding from World Bank will be embarking on the implementation of a project called Equity and Quality Learning at Secondary(EQUALS). The expected implementation period of the project is 6 years. The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to improve the quality of mathematics and science instruction and increase access to secondary education in Community Day Secondary Schools (CDSSs).
The Project Development Objective has three components:
Component 1. To improve the quality of Mathematics and Science instructions.
1.1 Minimum standards for quality instruction of mathematics and sciences
The sub-component involves in-service teacher orientation to the revised sciences and mathematics curriculum, provision of teaching and learning materials, and training of head teachers in management and instructional leadership.
The sub-component shall include teacher support programs and summative continuous assessment.
Component 2. Enhancing equitable access to secondary education
2.1 System strengthening for equity and efficiency
This sub-component shall include development of a sustainable secondary education expansion plan & requisite sector reforms on financing public secondary education, public-private partnerships, and regulations governing OSSs, and development of secondary education teacher development, management, recruitment and deployment strategy.
2.2: Increasing equitable opportunities for secondary education
This shall involve reformed student selection process for improved equity and optimal use of existing schools, reformed beneficiary identification mechanism for student bursaries, school based adolescent health and hygiene program and mitigation of School Related Gender Based Violence (GBV).
2.3 Upgrading at least 100 CDSSs/ District Day Schools
This shall involve delivery of construction package to selected schools (2 furnished classroom blocks (4 classrooms), a twin furnished multi-purpose science block installed with requisite systems; 2 gender and disabled friendly 6-stance ablution blocks; 1 furnished library with furnished ICT laboratory block; and solar power installations where appropriate.)
Component 3. Project Coordination, Learning, Monitoring and Evaluation This will involve capacity enhancement for implementation support, strengthening data and information systems data collection, reporting, process monitoring and utilization processes at various end-user points for effective policy dialogue throughout the EQUALS program period and project monitoring and evaluation systems development, data collection and reporting.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Renewable or Mechanical Engineering from recognised Institution, registered with a professional body.
At least 7 years working experience in reputable and busy office.
