Job Description

Emmanuel International is a faith based organization working with rural communities in the southern part of Malawi in Relief and Development since 1987. Emmanuel International is implementing Development and Food Security project known as Titukulane Project, meaning (let us work together for development}. This project is for five years and it will be implemented in Mangochi.

The Titukulane project intends to focus on six program areas: Agriculture, Maternal and Child Health, Water supply and sanitation, Civil Society, Disaster readiness, Private sector productivity and Environment. The project will both build capacities of women, men, girls and boys, and address systematic weaknesses that limit opportunities and reduce the likelihood of sustained outcomes.

Job Title: Finance Assistants (2 Posts)


  • Assists in scrutinizing Vouchers so that they are correctly raised and expenses charged to correct Account Codes combinations all the time.
  • Assists in reviewing and validating supporting documentation before processing Financial Transactions all the time.
  • Records Financial Transactions following appropriate authorization all the time
  • Prepares correcting entries and adjustments, as necessary all the time
  • Reconciles Financial Transactions following appropriate authorization all the time and timely
  • Ensure relevant supporting documentation is attached to all Payment Vouchers.
  • Maintains proper filing of related financial documents and ensure easy access and retrieval.
  • Assists in preparations of various periodic and as-needed Financial Reports timely
  • Reviews / analyses various Accounts in time all the time
  • Alerts relevant staff timely of any irregularities as they are noticed so that they are corrected
  • Responds to queries from staff, partners, auditors, other stakeholders related to Financial information
  • Coordinates the Grants officer and Finance officer on preparation of Tax remittances time to time.
  • Delivers accounting services in compliance with El policies and donor requirements time to time.
  • Assists staff with Financial Accounting Policies and Procedural compliance issues all the time
  • Ensures that all amendments are appropriately and properly authorized, while ensuring compliance with Administration Procedures.
  • Ensures that all Vouchers are put in the appropriate monthly Files.
  • Ensures that all Vouchers are approved before entering them into El Accounting Package.
  • Ensures that data is entered on a daily basis in accounting System.
  • Ensures a proper and up-to-date Filing of Financial documents that shall include Project Agreements that are maintained for all projects under jurisdiction.
  • Maintains Finance Department Filing System; ensuring easy and controlled access to Financial Records and Transactions.

Qualifications Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an accountant BA Degree in Accounting Degree or ACCA Part II.
  • Extremely detail oriented and with special attention to accuracy and completeness
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Ability to understand and implement El policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate Agency-Wide Competencies on daily basis
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines under pressure
  • Well organized
  • Integrity
