THP-Malawi has been operating in Malawi since 1999 and is currently running programs and projects in nine districts namely; Blantyre, Chikhwawa, Dedza, Neno, Nsanje, Ntcheu, Phalombe, Salima and Zomba

THP-Malawi wishes to recruit an experienced and qualified person for the position of “Financial Inclusion and Livelihoods Program Officer”. The position is tenable at our Blantyre office with travel to the catchments areas.

Key Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Head of Programs (HOP), the position is responsible for but not limited to

Financial Inclusion
  • Provide technical expertise to staff in the implementation of socio economic village activities through developing strategies that will ensure women exclusive economic empowerment,
  • Support implementation of Villages savings, loans and skills development activities and other economic activities that improve livelihoods of the partners
  • Develop livelihood promotion capacities within the program, partners and community levels to protect livelihoods and achieve increased household income.
  • Provide capacity building and training of Village Savings & Loans Associations, skills development and other livelihoods interventions.
  • Link various partners in the epicentre and project sites with microfinance Institutions to improve access to microfinance services for improved livelihoods.
  • Represent the organization in various Microfinance boards and networks such as Tadala SACCO, Malawi Microfinance Network and others
  • Provide technical inputs in proposal development focussing on financial services and livelihoods interventions.
  • Lead planning and implementation of food security and livelihood activities in epicentres and other project areas.
  • Work with key THP staff in organising and facilitating food security training sessions for lead farmers and project partners.
  • Work with epicentre project staff to ensure that food banks are always stocked with produce all the time.
  • Liaise with Department of Agriculture at district level and other partner organizations in planning and implementation of food security programs.
  • Provide expert technical and methodological support/advice to program officers for sound program planning and implementation.
  • Effectively represent the organization in various food security, agriculture networks and other related forums.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural economics, agribusiness, or any related field.
  • Background/expertise in savings groups, SACCOs and other financial service providers like MFIs.
  • Five years’ experience working in financial services and livelihoods programing,
  • Experience working in an NGO set up managing budgets, including financial outlays and expenditures.
  • Previous work experience managing remote field teams.
  • Strong knowledge of the programme management cycle, and related process and structures for quality programme management
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills including ability to consolidate and edit technical reports.
  • Strategic thinking and Result Oriented.
  • Able to set and meet own targets on a monthly basis and follow up targets of reporting colleagues
  • Able to meet deadlines.
  • Able to identify programme challenges, plan and communicate alternatives for smooth programme implementation.
