Paladin (Africa) Limited invites applications from suitably qualified male or female Malawian nationals for the post of Fitter tenable at the Kayelekera Mine in Karonga District. This position will report to the Maintenance Foreman.
The purpose of this role is to conduct ongoing repairs, Plant upgrade and preventative maintenance to maintain Plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production targets.
Specifically the Fitter will:
Carry out mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain Plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production targets;
Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum production capabilities;
Perform fabrication of steel structures/piping and corrective maintenance to improve equipment availability, safety and functionality;
Plan replacement of worn or damaged parts for replacement during planned maintenance days.
Conduct daily inspections of allocated sections of the Plant;
Provide the supervisor with appropriate information regarding equipment availability and problems identified from inspections;
Actively participate in training activities to gain and develop new skills;
Under the direction of supervisor, provide on the job training and coaching to less experienced team members;
Complete planned maintenance documentation accurately;
Lubricate the Plant and equipment as to schedule;
Ensure that the workplace is cleaned up after completion of work;
Provide high quality work by doing the jobs correctly the first time;
Be proactive in aspects of Plant security to prevent and eliminate theft and fraud;
Ensure that all operations are in line with the Company’s Health and Safety standards of operations;
Carry out other duties as required and directed by the Maintenance Foreman;
Qualifications, Skills, Qualities and Experience:
Fitting Trade Certificate from a recognized trade institution;
Minimum of 3 years experience in a mining Plant environment;
Experience in a processing Plant preferred;
Mechanically minded, considerable experience with pumps, gearboxes, drives, all mechanical equipment found in a processing Plant;
Strong commitment to OH&S procedures and policies;
Strong communication skills;
Work under minimal supervision;
Ability to work with people from a wide range of nationalities and cultures;
