Job Description

St Andrews Community Hospital is a non-profit making institution under the Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi. The Hospital is a member of the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). It offers inpatient and outpatient services. St Andrews Community Hospital would like to recruit suitably qualified personnel to fill the following vacant position with immediate effect:

Post: PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (Grade K) (1 position)

Location: Kasungu

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing oversight in all aspects of pharmacy services including forecasting, procurement, storage and dispensing of medications and all medical supplies, as well as disposal of expired medical supplies.
  • Liaise with clinicians, IPC, and Administrator to determine appropriate stock levels, determine priority and minimal stocks of each drug in stock, and communicate issues related thereof to clinicians.
  • Maintain and update pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and train subordinates in the SOP.
  • Participate in hospital committees representing the Pharmacy department.
  • Provide quarterly reports on drug procurement, drug usage and drug wastage to the Medical Director and administrator.
  • Provide necessary training to subordinates (Pharmacy Assistants and Attendants) in the use of SOPs.
  • Maintain accurate records of drugs and medical supplies dispensed to each department of the Hospital and comparing drug usage and current department stocks
  • Supervise Pharmacy personnel to ensure adequate staffing at all times by developing a workable duty roster.
  • Any other duties properly assigned by the supervisor/management from time to time.

Qualification and Requirements
  • Diploma in Pharmacy obtained from recognized institution.
  • Valid registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • Strong demonstration of leadership and team player skills.
  • Forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
  • A strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
  • Excellent computer proficiency especially in MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Excellent Knowledge and experience in hospital pharmacy management and practice.
  • In-depth knowledge of the pharmaceutical supply chain, physician prescribing habits, the medication-use process and the medication-use policy.
