CARE is an International Non-Government Organization and works in 95 countries around the world to support more than 890 poverty-fighting development and humanitarian-aid projects in the improvement of livelihoods and capacities of poor and marginalized households especially women and girls. In Malawi, CARE works in collaboration with the Government of Malawi and local partners.

CARE Malawi through Southern Africa Nutrition Initiative (SANI) is implementing a gender sensitive nutrition program in Dowa and Ntchisi districts. SANI aims to improve the nutritional status of women of reproductive age and children under 5 years, while working with local health authorities and communities. In Dowa, the project is being implemented in Traditional Authorities Kalumo, Kasakula, Kayembe and Dzoole.

We are therefore recruiting qualified, experienced and dynamic Malawian nationals to hired as Project Field Officers  (PFOs) to be based at Tradional Authority level in Dowa.

The Project Field Officers, shall be reporting to the Project Coordinator will be responsible for the successful implementation, coordination and monitoring of community mobilization and capacity building interventions in collaboration with decentralized structures of Government (Ministry of Health, Ministry of Gender Children, Disability and Social Welfare; Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development; District Council and other relevant departments). Key duties will include the following:

  • Prepare and submit monthly and weekly work plans which will align with the Project quarterly and monthly work plans and budget.
  • Coordinate and support community volunteers to implement project activities in accordance with CARE’s programmatic and financial standards and procedures.
  • Support government extension workers and community volunteers/structures in community awareness of and buy-in to project activities including Community Nutrition Education.
  • Prepare and submit monthly activity reports describing his/her accomplishments against approved work plans and targets, addressing any challenges and obstacles encountered during implementation.
  • Provide continuous support towards data collection, consolidation and reporting from his/her area according to established timeframes.
  • Carryout regular support visits and review meeting with community volunteers, government extension workers and community governance structures.
  • Support community volunteers to prepare and submit monthly work plans
  • Support volunteers to collect and consolidate project data and prepare and submit monthly progress reports.
  • Co-facilitate review meetings with community volunteers and structures and participate in higher-level review and coordination meetings. 


Minimum Required Qualifications, skills and relevant work experience

  • Diploma in Agriculture, Community Development and in any related fields.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in care group approach, community water sanitation and hygiene, women economic empowerment and gender integration related projects.
  • Ability to ride a motorcycle and a holder of clean motorcycle driving licence is MUST.
  • Good facilitation and communications skills
  • Excellent knowledge of the local context
  • Team player with demonstrable interpersonal skills
  • Capable of adapting and thriving in demanding and fast-paced work environment
  • Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet.
