RADIATION OFFICER – PERMANENT POSITION

Paladin (Africa) Limited invites applications from suitably qualified male or female Malawian nationals for the post of Radiation Officer tenable at the Kayelekera Mine in Karonga District. This position will report to the Safety, Health, Environment and Radiation Manager.

 

Role Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to support the Safety, Health, Environment and Radiation Manager in ensuring implementation of and compliance with the Company’s Radiation Management Plan.

 

Specifically the Radiation Officer will:

 

  • Identify and report radiation hazards in the workplace.
  • Provide technical advice to assist in mitigation and management of any radiation hazards.
  • Undertake non-routine radiation monitoring projects as required.
  • Deliver radiation induction training for all workers and visitors as required.
  • Assist in managing the transport of radioactive materials.
  • Ensure that only those radioactive materials released from site are controlled.
  • Assist in the determination of radiation doses to workers and members of the public.
  • Maintain registers for all radioactive sources and irradiating apparatus.
  • Perform the duties of the Radiation Laboratory Advisor when required.
  • Carry out other duties as required or directed by the Safety, Health, Environment and Radiation Manager.

 

Qualifications / Experience:

 

  • Degree in physical sciences or chemistry.
  • Working knowledge of local regulations and legislation regarding working with ionising radiation.
  • Working knowledge of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) publications
  • Ability to supervise staff.
  • Strong commitment to OH&S standards and policies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
