The Lilongwe Wildlife Centre work under the umbrella of the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust and is Malawi’s only wildlife rehabilitation Centre. The Centre is being accredited for their high organizational and animal welfare standards by GFAS, PASA and the Born Free Foundation. The Centre rescues and rehabilitates all kind of Malawian wildlife in distress, of which many come from illegal trade. We currently house almost 190 wild residents including baboons, vervet monkeys, antelopes, reptiles, birds, lion and serval cat with new animals coming in every month. The Centre runs several active release programs, returning many rescued animals back to the wild wherever suitable and appropriate in line with the set standards by the IUCN. To assist the rehabilitation department the Centre is currently looking for a Malawian rehabilitation assistant.


Job Description

In this challenging position you work under the supervision and guidance of the Rescue and Rehabilitation Manager (RRM). Your main responsibilities is to help oversee the daily rehabilitation processes. You assist during integration (re-socialization) processes of animals, collect records and write reports. It is your responsibility to keep oversight of all integrations and report on a daily basis to the RRM.

Wherever required and appropriate you help out with other rehabilitation tasks like intake, animal stabilization, feedings, cleaning enclosures, repairing and general orphan care.


Qualifications, experience and competencies:

  • Preferably but not mandatory a degree related to or courses that have been taken in wildlife, conservation or any other animal related field
  • A strong motivation to work for an organization with LWT’s vision & mission
  • You have an eye for detail and can work according to set procedures
  • You are flexible, have a problem solving attitude and like new challenges
  • You have good communication skills and enjoy working in a team
  • You enjoy working with volunteers from different nationalities and are able to involve them in your day-to-day work
  • You are highly motivated and can work independent
  • You are physically fit


Terms of position:

This is a full time role, at the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre with growing opportunities. Salary and benefits are dependent on skills and experience. Please note that only Malawian applicants will be considered.
