Rehabilitation Management Assistant

This is a mid-level managers' position reporting into the Centre's Rehabilitation Manager. The Rehabilitation Management Assistant (RMA) provides direction and guidance to a team of animal caretakers and supports the RM where necessary in all aspects of daily management of the rehabilitation process of the Wildlife Centre animals. To do so the RMA must be independent and self motivated and have the ability and confidence to develop him/herself to deliver exceptional animal welfare standards and ensure that LWC's animals are afforded the hisghest possible levels of care and rehabilitation at all times. The RMA is mature, takes responsibility and has high potential to learn new skills. The RMA has good communication skills and is a real team player. The RMA has knowledge and understanding of the LWT ethos and mission and incorporates these in  the day to day work developing a team culture which promotes exceptional  animal care and responsible ethics at all times.


Core Responsibilities

The Rehabilitation management assistant has the following core responsibilities:

  1. Ensures that animals at the LWC are taken care for according to existing policies and Standard Operating Procedures
  2. Manages the animal caretaker team and provides direction and support ensure work is being performed to the highest possible standards and LWC policies.
  3. Builds up staff capacity through training, sensitisation and guidance.
  4. Assist and liaise with the Rehabilitation Manager and Sanctuary veterinarian wherever required
  5. Creates a stimulating work environment whereby high standards in work performance are adhered to.
  6. Ensures that all animal care, rehabilitation and staff records are up-to-date at all times
  7. Ensures that all animal enclosures are well-maintained and assist with the improvements of animal facilities
  8. Ensures that all employee health and safety protocols and procedures of LWC are upheld at all times by all staff and volunteers operating within the Animal Care department.


Core Competencies and Qualifications

The ideal candidate has:


  1. A scientific degree in Animal Science, Biology, Animal Health Science or any related study
  2. Proven experience in managing and empowering a team of staff members
  3. A good understanding of and experience in working with animals, whereby the preference goes to candidates which have experience working with wildlife
  4. A good understanding for the LWT’s aims and mission and considerable passion and strong ambition to move these forwards within LWC.
  5. Is independent, mature and self-motivated with the ability to learn and pick up new skills and knowledge
  6. Must be flexible, adaptable, and capable of developing innovative and practical solutions to challenges, along with having attention to detail and being able to multi-task.
  7. Being physically fit and able to work outside in a hot climate.
  8. Good command of English (spoken and written) and have knowledge of standard Office computer programs.
