Job Title:  Strategic Partnership Development Coordinator

*Contract duration: 2 months with possibility of extension subject to Funding*


GOAL has been working in southern Malawi since 2002 and currently has a presence in five districts (Nsanje, Chikwawa, Machinga, Mangochi and Balaka). GOAL’s global objective is to promote resilient well-being by: helping people to survive crisis; promoting optimal and resilient health; promoting food and nutrition security, and; supporting people to have sustainable and decent work. GOAL maintains close working relationships with the district authorities and relevant line ministries. 

In 2018, GOAL Malawi is going through a period of transition, with a number of key projects having come to an end over the past 6-12 months. If the future of the organisation is to be secured, GOAL needs not just additional funding, but stronger donor relations, additional national level partnerships, and a greater profile in national level policy and coordination mechanisms. As a means of achieving this, GOAL Malawi is recruiting a national Strategic Partnership Development Coordinator, to be based in Lilongwe.  This position is initially sought for a two months period, following which the value of the role will be reviewed. Based on that review, and funding permitting, the role may be extended beyond that period.

Key duties:

o    Map key external stakeholders that GOAL should be engaging with at the national level, to include:

i) Government stakeholders

 ii) Donors

iii) Potential strategic consortium partners

iv) Key coordination and/or technical forums

v) The private sector

o    In consultation with the Assistant Country Director-Programmes and relevant technical team, conduct meetings with key stakeholders to develop relationships and assess scope for future funding and/or strategic alliances;

o    In consultation with the Assistant Country Director-Programmes and global Strategic Partnerships unit, contribute to the development of the Malawi donor mapping report and the development of a resource mobilization/fundraising strategy;

o    Review the scope for expanding GOAL operations into central and/or northern Malawi;

o    Represent GOAL in technical and/or coordination meetings, as requested;

  • Regularly monitor donor solicited funding opportunities through websites, newspapers and other mediums and take the appropriate action in consultation with the Assistant Country Director-Programmes;
  • Contribute to the development of GOAL Malawi’s strategic planning processes, new proposal development, and national policy/advocacy agenda, as requested.

Key deliverables:

o    Submission of weekly progress reports

o    A final report highlight key identified opportunities for:

  1. fundraising/business development;
  2. ii) consortium and/or partnership development;
  3. iii) engagement in strategic policy/advocacy activities
  4. iv) expansion opportunities.

o    Ad-hoc contributions to strategic planning processes, new proposal development as and when required.
