Job Description

Maxwell Stamp are now recruiting for highly experienced Team Leaders to manage forthcoming donor-funded resilience projects in Africa.

Team Leaders are responsible for overall co-ordination and management of the programmes. This includes managing relationships with the donor, the government, any consortium partners and other key stakeholders. Team Leader positions are full time for the duration of the project, based in-country and typically last between four and six years.

Resilience Programmes

Resilience projects focus on improving the ability of countries, communities and households to manage change in the face of shocks or stresses. Shocks and stresses include both earthquakes and drought. Project activities can range between social safety nets, climate resilient activities, livelihood diversification and early warning systems.

Maxwell Stamp is looking for candidates who have demonstrated experience of working with host governments and large consortia in delivering more effective, self-financed and accountable resilience responses.

Role and Responsibilities

The Team Leader is responsible for the overall management and delivery of our programmes. S/he will act as the ‘backbone’ of the programme and ensure that the whole team and partner organisations are performing to a high standard and delivering the proposed outputs. S/he will be the public face of the programme, and will have overall responsibility for these areas:

  • Policy strategy and long term planning
  • Representation and liaison
  • Annual planning and implementation
  • Management and oversight of all programme staff and activities
  • Finance, procurement and administration
  • Recruitment and human resource management
  • Progress reporting

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced university degree in Political Science, Development, Law, Public Administration or other relevant disciplines;
  • Proven track record in at least two or more of the following fields: climate-financing, livelihoods, social protection, early warning, disaster risk reduction, government capacity-building and climate resilient actions;
  • Demonstrable understanding of the political and socio-economic context surrounding resilience projects;
  • Significant leadership and management experience (especially as a Team Leader or Deputy Team Leader) of large donor-funded projects (ideally DFID) in the field of resilience and livelihoods;
  • Experience engaging with various stakeholders including donors, governments and NGOs and coordinating activities across stakeholders;
  • Strong experience in managing multi-cultural teams;
  • Previous experience of working in Africa (specifically Malawi and Ethiopia)
  • Knowledge of capacity building of NGO service providers in the above fields;
  • Experience in monitoring, impact assessment, research, lesson learning and dissemination;
  • Proven skills in public advocacy and policy development;
  • Excellent written and oral English language.
