Temporary Nurse / Service Provider


 

Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM) is a local, non-governmental organization providing youth friendly sexual and reproductive health rights, information, and services.

Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM) compliments the government of Malawi in improving the health status of all people in Malawi. FPAM’s vision is a Malawian society with access to quality and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health information and services.

 

FPAM is looking for suitably qualified candidates to fill the following positions:

 

Temporary Nurse / Service Provider

 

Reporting to the District Manager, the Temporary Nurse shall be responsible for planning and provision of youth friendly, client centered services to clients for Family Planning Association of Malawi.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

Service provision:

  • Counsel clients and provide advice for family planning, sexual transmitted infections, HIV /AIDs and other SRH services;
  • Assist in the treatment room during surgical procedures;
  • Run under 5s clinics, including screening, weighing and immunisation;
  • Examine clients and treat STIs and minor ailments;
  • Prescribe and dispense drugs;.
  • Practicing high standards of infection prevention at all times while  ensuring that clinic protocols are maintained to IPPF standards.

 

Client care:

  • In line with FPAM standards, provide care to all clients, which has the following qualities Consistent, Reliable, Courteous, Value for money, Prompt and excellent, as perceived and judged by customers

 

Record keeping and reporting

  • Routinely maintain accurate records of all procedures and produce reports as necessary.
  • Monitor levels of medical and pharmaceutical supplies

 

Marketing and business development

  • Together with the other members of the centre team, contribute to ensuring that the centre is self-sustaining and help generate additional clients, retain existing clients and ‘cross-sell’ FPAM services;
  • Liaise with Community Outreach Programme and the CRHPs;
  • Support and take part in promotional events.

 

 

Other Duties:

  • Provide cover for other team members in their absence; any other duties as assigned by the District Manager.

 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Certificate/ Diploma in Nursing and be registered with the Nurses and Midwife Council il of Malawi.
  • Training in Sexual and Reproductive Health Services.

 

 

Experience:

  • At least two (2) years’ experience

 

Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of modern family practices and procedure.
  • Thorough knowledge of the use and effects of various drugs.
  • Thorough knowledge of general nursing practice.
  • Basic knowledge of drug stock control system.  
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and other team members
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement in making decisions involving non-routine problems with general guidance only from District Manager.
  • Computer literacy (desirable)

 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • A minimum diploma in nursing field
  • At least 2 years relevant experience in a busy hospital environment
  • Ability to work without supervision with high level of independence and organization
