Job Description

African Parks is a non-profit organisation that takes on direct responsibility for rehabilitation and long-term management of National Parks, in partnership with governments and local communities. By adopting a business approach to conservation, supported by donor funding, African Parks aims at making each park sustainable in the long-term, thereby contributing to economic development and poverty alleviation. AP in Malawi currently manages Majete, Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserves and Liwonde National Park.

Location: Liwonde National Park

Reporting to: Field Operations Manager

Expected start date : A.S.A.P

Type of contract: Fixed-term (36 months), with a possibility of renewal based on performance


The Workshop Supervisor will directly report to Field Operations Manager. The overall role of Workshop Supervisor is to coordinate and direct the Technicians for maximum efficiency and productivity while overseeing all repair work to ensure the highest quality of service.


  • Prepare, supervise and control workshop activities, including scheduling of work in the workshop.
  • Assist all Technicians and Apprentices in the diagnosis of mechanical problems.
  • Ensure that Technicians and Apprentices are using their time effectively & efficiently.
  • Check and inspect that all tools are available and maintained in the correct place and all equipment is in suitable working condition.
  • Control and set workshop behavioral standards
  • Advise all new and existing staff of policies and procedures and adherence to these policies and procedures.
  • Make suggestions to Management for improvements to the workshop operations
  • Follows workshop procedures and instructions to achieve good Occupational, Health and SafetyPractice
  • Ensures workshop staff use personal protective equipment as required
  • Assisting towards keeping the workshop area Clear and Clean, Orderly and Attractive in appearance.
  • Assist in coordinating after hours call outs and weekly on call roster
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Management in a professional and efficient manner


  • At least five years previous experience as a Mechanic.
  • Exhibit Leadership skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong personal integrity and dependability.
  • Ability to be organized, flexible, self-motivated and work effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Good health and physical condition.
  • Ability to work for long periods in very remote and physically demanding circumstances at unusual working hours.
  • Diploma in Motor Vehicle Mechanics.
  • City and Guilds Certification
