CALL FOR YOUNG PROFESSIONALS TO JOIN THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AT CYECE

1.0 BACKGROUND

Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education (CYECE) is a Non-Governmental and not-for-profit organization established in March 1997. It was formed with the aim of addressing the socio-economic development issues affecting children and young people in Malawi. CYECE’s development goal calls for Scaling up of interventions and efforts that protect children’s rights, empower young people and promote their sexual and reproductive health and rights in Malawi. CYECE headquarters is based in Lilongwe in Area 15 and it has programmes across Malawi with community-based projects in Lilongwe, Kasungu, Salima, Mchinji, Dedza in the central region, Mangochi, Chiradzulu, Machinga, Balaka, Zomba, Thyolo, Blantyre and Chikhwawa in the southern Region and Karonga, Nkhatabay, Mzimba in the northern region.

The Organization uses four interlinked strategies of Community Mobilization, empowerment, Capacity building and advocacy to fulfill its mandate. CYECE has a strong and active board of trustees which has professionals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines.
CYECE has an immediate vacancy for 2 Young professionals to join its Board of Trustees and is currently seeking applications from self-motivated young people who will join a team of professionals in CYECEs board to provide overall oversight to the operations of CYECE. This is a voluntary position and is in line with the Meaningful Youth Participation (MYP) focus which specifically ensure that young people are able to contribute towards decision making processes at all levels. The term of office is 3 years.

2.0 KEY ROLES OF THE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS IN THE BOARD

  • Approval of the annual budgets
  • Approve the organization’s financial policies
  • Review quarterly and annual financial reports, including budget monitoring, cash flow and the balance sheet
  • Monitor progress in generating funds to ensure that the organization has adequate resources to carry out its objectives
  • Review and approve the audited financial statements
  • Ensure accountability and transparency
  • Periodically assess the financial risks facing the organization
  • To represent the interests of young people and the youth in the board
  • Attend board committee and full board meetings
  • To participate in fundraising for the organization as required from time to time

3.0 QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience: No prior experience is required however knowledge and understanding of the global, regional and national policy environment and governance issues is an added advantage.
  • Education: Preferably first Degree in any related field from a recognized learning institution but preferably in Finance, ICT, Research and Development studies. Applicants should be aged below 25 years.
