Job Description

Seed Co Malawi is inviting applicants from suitably qualified, mature and experienced persons to fill the above position that has risen within the group. Reporting to the Managing Director, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing market and business development strategies as well as ensuring that profitable business growth is accelerated and achievement of commercial success for the business.


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or any business related or marketing bachelor’s degree from accredited institutions
  • Master’s in Business Administration


  • At least 10 years’ experience in a similar role within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) Industry.
  • People management experience
  • Knowledge of the seed industry
  • Exceptional proficiency with IT tools, and exceptional professional writing & presentation
  • Board reporting skills
  • Significant experience with strategy formulation, implementation and monitoring


  • Enough depth to deliver sales and marketing imperatives across geographies and different settings
  • Highly confidential disposition, outstanding negotiation, lobbying and conflict resolution abilities
  • Excellent communicator with all levels of seniority within the organization; respectful, firm and fair personality with high integrity
  • Ability to motivate relevant teams and; capacity to work on various topics and fit in a diverse multicultural environment
  • Articulate, firm, respectful with a high sense of integrity & confidentiality


  • Planning and implementation of commercial strategy, including advertising and public relations.
  • Managing commercial relationships, developing new business opportunities and contributing to market penetration and valuable insights into the positioning and performance of Seed Co products.
  • Develops short- and long-term Marketing plans that achieve the organization’s objectives of creating, protecting and developing value and a consistently competitive return on investment.
  • Responsible for management of relevant reporting of management and financial information for the commercial function.
  • Planning, forecasting, and reporting on sales, costs and business performance, according to company requirements.
  • Coordinates institutional sales with the Government, NGOs, contract farming, corporate sales, and trade sales to achieve the overall target.
  • Develops and maintains new markets.
  • Reviews and manages the current product basket in liaison with the product lifecycle committee.
  • Draws up departmental budgets, monitors and controls expenditure.
  • Negotiating contracts with distributors to manage product distribution, establishing distribution networks and developing distribution strategies.
  • Developing and maintaining an excellent understanding of key customers to ensure that their needs are met and that their business is retained.
  • Managing relationships with Government and other key stakeholders to Seed Co advantage.
  • Reviews and assesses the potential to develop strategic partnerships with sector specialists.
  • Identifies value drivers of the business, developing strategies that enable to leverage on as we grow revenue and market share.
  • Plays a leading role in identifying strategic partners in promotional activities
  • Develops an image that is consistent of an energetic, competitive, innovative and reliable organization.
  • Leads in building and maintaining relationships with Donor representatives, Government officials, partners and other stakeholders.
