Group Risk Management: understanding all risks – from the economic to the political &environment; that could affect our global business, and offering guidance to all parts of the bank

Job Purpose

To provide strategic business research and analysis for Malawi Credit by keeping abreast of global industry trends and risk management requirements by analyzing trends, tracing changes and reporting

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Preparing and ensuring compliance with statutory regulatory and supervisory requirements, to protect the reputation of the group and to avoid legal action/sanction in respect of regulatory and operational compliance matters
  • Compiling EXCO reports and other regular reports packs. Timeous and accurate compilation of the following reports: Flash Report; Summary of OBDDR, Watch list; Credit Return; Finance/ Credit Reconciliation; KRIs/gratification registers; Portfolio performance report
  • Understanding of IAS39 and provisioning principles
  • Be proactive in managing the product portfolio from both risk and value perspectives in order to achieve strategic and operational objectives
  • To provide a monthly strategy on the way forward in respect of the statistics
  • To provide insights on a sub-portfolio level to be used as input by the Head of credit and Head of product in determining the Risk Appetite position.
  • Ensure that monthly reporting delivered accurately, timeously and provide business and portfolio risk insight with respect to reports produced
  • Automation of MIS reports though COGNOS for various products as specified by the Portfolio Management function
  • Information Intelligence – provision of credit MIS to matrix partners on credit performance and running ad-hoc MIS reports

Preferred Qualification and Experience

  • Accountancy, Finance, Economics and business related degree (minimum requirement)
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft packages)
  • Banking experience particularly pertaining to credit risk management, banking processes with regards to banking products and the operation thereof
  • Broad knowledge of applicable acts and Banking manuals
  • Energetic and sound decision making skills
  • Must be able to work under pressure and remain focused
  • Analytical with a tolerance for high volumes and problem absorption whilst detailed oriented
  • previous finance reporting experience will be an added advantage

Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

  • Good Knowledge of the banks internal processes with regard to non-performing loan recovery process and credit process
  • Knowledge and understanding of macroeconomic indicators and financial and risk management.
  • Knowledge of retail and commercial environment will be preferable
  • Good general knowledge of African affairs.
  • Reflects and understanding of and the ability to apply basic financial concepts in developing management information
  • Model development.
  • Must  be comfortable in starting with a blank sheet of paper
