Job Description

Center for the Development of People (CEDEP) is a registered human rights organization dedicated to addressing the needs, improving the lives, and providing support for some of Malawi’s most neglected minority groups through civic education, training, capacity building, networking and research. The mission of CEDEP is to create an enabling environment and protect the wellbeing of sexual minorities and other vulnerable groups.

Center for the Development of People and Jhpiego, through the Gateway Program are supporting Ministry of Health (MOH) to address the unmet need for HIV testing services (HTS), by increasing uptake of HTS, care and treatment, and prevention services in Chikwawa, Mwanza and Mzimba Districts supported by the U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The interventions are aimed at achieving the three strategic goals of: increased access and demand for HTS; improved linkages to other HIV services; and improved quality of HTS.

Center for the Development of People is seeking to recruit suitably qualified and experienced Malawians in the position below:

Position: Data Entry Clerks

Supervisor: M & E Officer

Location & Number : Chikwawa- 1 and Mwanza-1

Reporting Date : Immediately

Position Summary

The Data Entry Clerk (DEC) will be responsible for the data collection, entry, and validation, and reporting of all project data. Under the direct supervision of M & E Officer, the DEC will keep track of all project data and enter data into the database for subsequent analysis. The DEC will also assist the M&E Officer in data quality assurance including routine data collection, validation and verification at sites to optimize data quality. S/he will also provide data management support to M&E Officer including all databases integrity and security.


Data Quality Management

  • Conduct routine M&E data collection at sites Correctly and Neatly Fill client files and update the files as required
  • Conduct data verification, cleaning, and entry into database efficiently and systematically according to the project standard operating procedures for data entry including use of collect client’s IDs.
  • Proactively provide feedback on data collection tools and systems
  • Ensure and maintain data quality and accuracy of original data
  • Assists with filing, recordkeeping, and any other administrative tasks, as required.
  • Assist with the formulation and entry into DHIS2 of the MOH monthly report
  • Provide periodic feedback to health facilities on site data management
  • Assist in field visit follow-up assessments, routine data quality assurance and verification exercises and supportive supervision visits at site/facility level as necessary
  • Provide accurate information to the M&E Officer to be used in quarterly, semi-annual and annual program reports
  • Assist in research and evaluation activities in the Satellite Office as necessary
  • Ensure confidentiality of M&E data.

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

  • Minimum of Diploma or advanced professional certificate(s) in computing with at least two (2) years of relevant data management experience, preferably with an international organization
  • Excellent computer skills with good knowledge of MS Access;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Power point, and web-based applications; familiarity with Stata/SPSS is a plus
  • Familiarity with online applications and their deployment.
  • Knowledge of Malawi national, zonal and district health management information system.
  • Ability to identifying errors and inaccuracies in data reporting
  • Excellent organizational skills and willingness to work as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written English and Chichewa, with the ability to communicate courteously and effectively in both languages
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; handle multiple tasks, sometimes with short deadlines.
  • Experience working in cooperation with colleagues with a wide range of interests and needs
  • Strong decision making skills and results oriented approach
