Job Description

In Malawi, GIZ has been working for more than 50 years Malawi is a priority for German international cooperation and currently focuses on three priority areas: education, health and private sector development in rural areas. In addition to our work on these areas, we also work on public financial and economic management and social protection.

GIZ invites applications from suitable qualified Malawians for the following opening at the Malawi German Health Programme (MGHP):

Position: Data Quality and Use Officer

Reporting to the Quality Management (QM) focal person of Ntcheu district the officer is responsible for:


  • Support initiatives to improve data quality (timeliness, completeness, and accuracy), working closely with the HMIS Office (HMIS team and Programme Coordinators)
  • Support development and implementation of facility data management policies
  • Identify the information needs of different audiences, including frontline staff, heads of departments, WITs, QISTs, HMIS, Health Facility Management and DHMT
  • Package and disseminate information for the different audiences
  • Promote data use for decision support in patient care and health facility management
  • Support quality improvement programmes and initiatives with data to measure change and improvements
  • Build the capacity of key audiences on data analysis, interpretation, and use, including training on the use of existing tools (digital or paper-based)
  • Support selected health facilities in data analysis, interpretation and use for decision support
  • Perform other duties and tasks at the request of management

Required Qualifications, Competencies and Experience.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or Epidemiology or equivalent.

Professional Experience
  • Between 6 months and 2 years professional experience in monitoring and evaluation, i.e. experience in data collection, consolidation, analysis, interpretation, dissemination and the promotion of its use

Additional Competencies
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies
  • Good communication, presentation and writing skills Experience using digital tools, especially DHIS2, to promote data analysis, interpretation and use, including building the capacity of health workers on the same, is key.
  • Basic experience in the use of statistical packages for quantitative data analysis is an added advantage.

Duty station

The duty station is Ntcheu District Hospital with occasional travel to other selected health facilities in Ntcheu District,

Employment contract

The employment will be from 1st January till 31st July, 2020 with a possibility of an extension depending upon availability of resources and performance.
