Job Description

The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) is a center in the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health that works in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco. I-TECH has projects in more than 20 countries, and its worldwide staff work with local ministries of health, universities, non-governmental organizations, medical facilities, and other partners to support efficient, well-ordered health care systems that provide high quality care to all citizens.  I-TECH Malawi provides technical assistance to the Malawi Ministry of Health and its partners to support human resource development, health systems strengthening, HIV care and treatment, and HIV surveillance for epidemic control.

I-TECH has been privileged to provide technical support to the Government of Malawi Ministry of Health (MoH), since 2008, through seconded senior Technical Assistants, Program Officers and Public Health Fellows.  The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) was established in 2002 at the University of Washington in Seattle.  I-TECH is funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Global HIV and TB (CDC-DGHT) under the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

I-TECH Malawi wishes to recruit highly qualified and experienced person to fill the following positions

Drivers (3 Positions)

Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing support to I-TECH Malawi and its seconded staff. The driver is responsible for providing efficient transport services and ensuring the vehicles are well maintained at all times.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Keep official vehicles clean, interior and exterior, in good running condition at all times and conduct daily check of fuel, water and oil levels
  • Ensure timely maintenance, servicing and repair of vehicles, with official authorization
  • Ensure vehicle has up to date log book
  • Ensure the road tax, certificate of fitness and insurance documents are up to date
  • Keep an orderly file of all vehicle documents
  • Ensure all vehicles carry a spare wheel in good order, tools and triangles
  • Ensure only authorized passengers travel in the vehicle. It will be a breach of contract to carry any unauthorized passengers in the vehicle
  • All requests for travel or to run errands for any office staff have to be authorized by the office and documented on the whiteboard
  • Adhere to speed limits enforced by Malawi law. The cost of any fines for speeding or any other road traffic offences will not be reimbursed by the office
  • Ensure all passengers wear seat belts at all times
  • Ensure the First Aid kit is kept in the vehicle at all times. It is the responsibility of the driver to check the kit regularly for replacement of used or expired items
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Professional and courteous manner at all times
  • Maintain regular and consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance and adherence to relevant health and safety procedures

Qualifications and Experience

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education
  • Authentic valid driver’s license
  • Those with valid defensive driving certificate have an advantage
  • More than 2 years of experience from a similar organization.
