Job Description

The Centre for Ticks & Tick-borne Diseases (CTTBD) is an institution based in Lilongwe with a mandate to provide demand driven support in the control of livestock diseases for the development of the livestock industry in Africa. Its core activities include production of veterinary tick-borne disease vaccines, training in livestock disease control and contract demand driven research.

 

The CTTBD is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Finance Officer.

Position: Finance Officer

 

Purpose of Position

Ensure adequate management of The Centre resources and sound financial reporting in line with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, local statutory laws, and donor requirements. Major responsibilities would include but not limited to preparation of cashbooks, bank & petty cash operations, cash receipts, receivables, prepayments, payables and operations, debt collection

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Cash management: prepare cashflow forecasts and carry out cash and bank reconciliations
  • Production of weekly, Quarterly and Annual management financial reports for management.
  • Make payments to ALL vendors and service providers
  • Ensure all accounting records and systems are in compliance with the statutory obligations as stipulated by the Malawi government.
  • Carry out internal audits and update the financial database.
  • Monitor all financial agreements with stakeholders and funders
  • Supervise the procurement of goods and services
  • Prepare the monthly payroll
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • BBA Accounting or equivalent degree/diploma and/or professional Accounting certification
  • Having worked in a Project programme will be an added advantage
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Proficiency in Quick Books software applications or similar financial applications
  • Extremely meticulously detailed and organized
  • Good command of English: both written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications: MS Excel; MS Word; MS Power-point
