Job Description

The Malawi Interfaith AIDS Association (MIAA) was established in 2003 as an interfaith service agency to play a pivotal role in the coordination and facilitation of HIV and AIDS programming in the country. The main aim of the Secretariat is to facilitate a united commitment of Faith Communities in the tight against HIV and AIDS.

MIAA provides an institutional framework for implementing strategies in the fight against and mitigating the impact of HIV and AIDS by the Faith Based Organizations. The significant role of the MIAA through its Secretariat is to facilitate and coordinate the implementation of HIV and AIDS programmes by the various faith based institutions and organizations through the already established religious structures in the country.

To beef up our operations, MIAA is inviting application from suitably qualified Malawian candidates to fill the above vacant positions tenable at the Secretariat in Lilongwe as soon as possible.

POSITION: FINANCE OFFICERS (2 Positions)

Grade: 6

Supervisor: Head of Finance and Administration

Department: Finance and Administration


JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Finance and Administration, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Process payments for suppliers and ensuring that documentation is complete and accurate and that appropriate signings and approvals are done before the payments are done.
  • Updating books of accounts in the accounting package on timely manner.
  • Perform Bank and General ledger Reconciliations
  • Maintain proper filing system of documents such as payments vouchers, petty cash. liquidations/ expense reports and Journal Vouchers
  • Assist program staff in dispersing fund to participants in workshops and trainings
  • Prepare/ assist program staff in budget preparation
  • Knowledge in how to Prepare payroll and payroll liabilities such as Pension, PAYE and Advances
  • Preparation of Tax returns such WHT and PAYE on time
  • Participate in Procurement of Goods and services
  • Assist in the production of financial reports
  • Assist with developing audit schedules for the annual audit.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Holder of Bachelor of Accountancy degree or ACCA level II
  • With minimum of 2-3 years working experience in finance/ accounting in Non-profit making organisation with fund/grants accounting.
  • Experience in Project Financial management and reporting and auditing will be an added advantage.


COMPETENCIES

The position requires a highly motivated person with the following attributes:
  • Knowledge of Accounting package such as Quick books is the plus
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills and the ability to interact effectively with others, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to perform multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Previous experience working with Religious Bodies will be an added advantage.
