NITEL, Malawi’s premier integrated technology services company has the following exciting job opportunities for first-rate individuals in its Applications Development Division in Lilongwe.

Front End Developer

The Job

The Front End Developer will contribute to the development of applications and integration of systems in line with the company’s core application design philosophy to meet the business growth ambitions of Nitel.

He or She will be responsible for building the ‘client-side’ of web applications. The successful candidate will be required to translate customer’s needs into functional and appealing interactive applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new user-facing features
  • Build reusable code and libraries for future use
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs
  • Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability
  • Assure that all user input is validated before submitting to back-end
  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Facilitate the client’s product vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping and user-testing experiences for digital products.
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
  • Identify design problems and devise solutions.
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.
  • Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate designs.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science/Business Information Systems/Information Technology
  • Experience developing with .Net Stack preferably using C# as programming language
  • Web programming skills, E- Commerce, Web Services, APIs, web security
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3
  • Understanding of server-side CSS pre-processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS
  • Proficient understanding of client-side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery
  • Good understanding of AngularJS, ReactJS, NodeJS
  • Good understanding of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, and AJAX
  • Basic knowledge of image authoring tools, to be able to crop, resize, or perform small adjustments on an image. Familiarity with tools such as Gimp or Photoshop is a plus.
  • Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
  • Good understanding of SEO principles and ensuring that application will adhere to them.
