Job Description


Jhpiego is an international. non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego has been working in Malawi since 1999 implementing a wide-range of interventions in maternal health, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. Current projects include facility and community-based HIV testing services, and HIV prevention.

Jhpiego intends to recruit suitable and a qualified staff for the vacant position above.


Location: Mzimba

Supervises: HIV Self-Testing Facilitators

Report to: District Team Lead


The HIVST Coordinator reports to the District Team Lead and is responsible for coordinating the rot out of HIVST activities in Blantyre under the Gateway Project. The project aims to increase utilization of HTS in selected districts in Malawi to support the attainment of the 95-95-95 goals, in alignment with PEPFAR and Malawian Government priorities. The HIVST coordinator will coordinate the community/facility distribution of HIVST kits, coordinate quarterly meetings involving HIVST providers and stakeholders at district level. S/he will ensure that HIVST is delivered to the target populations through designated models as per the HIVST Malawi National Operational plan.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a health related discipline;
  • At least 5 years of experience in health sector programs, with focus on community-based HIV service delivery,
  • Sound understanding of Malawi’s health sector policies and program frameworks, especially in the field of HIV and AIDS.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with traditional leaders, NGOs/CBOs.
  • Experience of supporting community-based provision of health services including experience in field of HIV counseling and testing.
  • Experience working with PEPFAR supported programs an advantage.
  • Possession of Valid motorbike license.
  • Fluency in English and local language.
  • Competent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point Outlook Email etc);
  • Experience in managing and motivating teams, supervising staff, and addressing performance challenges;
  • Articulate in written and spoken English with effective communication skills, and good interpersonal and written and oral skills:
  • Ability to work in a complex environment charged with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform;
  • Sensitive to issues working with marginalized groups within the Malawi context;
  • Motivated, passionate, and hardworking.
