Job Description

Peace Corps, an international development agency of the United States Government, has an immediate opening for a Language & Cross-Culture Coordinator. The Language & Cross-Culture Coordinator (LCC), under the direct supervision of the Training Director, is responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of the local language and culture training program for approximately 90 American Peace Corps Volunteers-in-training (also known as Trainees) per year. These activities will strengthen the Trainees’ abilities to live and work effectively in Malawi. The LCC also trains and supervises approximately 20 Language and Cross-Culture Facilitators (LCF).

This is a full-time position based in Lilongwe, Malawi, with extended periods of work in Kasungu and/or other parts of the country.

This position is open to: Malawian citizens only.

Qualifications:

In order to be selected for this position, the applicant must submit an application that clearly documents how they meet all of the following minimum required qualifications as well as any of the applicable desired qualifications:

Minimum required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any subject
  • Minimum of five years’ experience teaching language to foreign students
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in a multi-culture setting
  • Minimum of two years’ experience supervising or managing staff
  • Able to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Able to read, write, and speak a Malawian local language fluently

Desired qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in any subject
  • Knowledge of and experience in using adult learning and participatory methods
  • Knowledge of and experience in using evidence-based language learning methodologies
  • Experience with program design and management
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member with minimal supervision, prioritize multiple tasks, pay close attention to details, be proactive and solutions-oriented, and provide logistical support to Trainees/Volunteers and staff
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to work well with people in a multi-cultural setting with diverse populations
  • Able to facilitate training sessions comfortably
  • Excellent computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), including demonstrated ability to prepare reports and develop materials.
