Job Description

Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) is a locally registered nongovernmental organization that provides high quality HIV testing, prevention and treatment services to individuals, families and communities through static and outreach outlets in order to reduce HIV transmission and the impact of HIV and AIDS in Malawi.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the position of Monitoring and Evaluation Manager to be based at MACRO Secretariat in Lilongwe

Position: Monitoring and Evaluation Manager

Position Overview

To provide overall technical and M&E support for MACRO programs and work closely with its partners in order to enhance efforts aimed at reducing HIV transmission and the impact of HIV and AIDS in Malawi

Main Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements overall integrated M&E plan for MACRO Programs in partnership with the Head of Programs
  • Develops and implements M&E work plan and budget in partnership with Project Managers
  • Drafts M&E sections of all donor reports, which includes extensive analysis of routinely collected quarterly data against preset targets and programmatically meaningful denominators
  • Ensures use of updated M&E tools and SOPs
  • Ensures timely quarterly data entry into all relevant databases
  • Oversees conduction and follow-up of data quality audits; prepares report on overall findings
  • Coordinates and leads quarterly data review meetings
  • Identify and troubleshoot data management systems problems
  • Provides support to M&E officers by overseeing implementation of their individual annual work plans and ensuring their professional development.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of the functioning of Malawi health delivery systems, current health sector programs, strategies and implementation plans especially those related to HIV and AIDS.
  • Proficient in biostatistics and working knowledge of statistical software packages e.g. (STATA or SPSS)
  • Highly organized, meticulous and reliable.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance/quality improvement principles will be advantageous.
  • Must have excellent numerical skills.
  • Ability to design, manage and present data and write technical reports.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and report writing and presentation skills.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum three years’ experience in M&E at supervisory level
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Demography, Project Management, Statistics, Public Health or related fields, or relevant work experience
  • Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field is an added advantage
  • Experienced in writing technical reports
  • Knowledge and experience in using quality improvement methodologies for health, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, communication and learning (knowledge management)
  • Creative and innovative thinking, and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills coupled with excellent communication skills: verbal, written, listening, presentation and facilitation
