Job Description

The candidate MUST possess multi trade hands-on experience in plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting works. This position is tenable at its school facility in Blantyre.

Post: Plumber


Duties

  • Installs pipes and fixtures such as sinks and toilets, for water, gas, air or other liquids
  • Installs supports for pipes, equipment and plumbing fixtures prior to installation
  • Installs heating and air conditioning systems including water heaters (geysers)
  • Analyses problem and identifies appropriate tools and materials for repair
  • Follows health and safety standards and complies with building codes
  • Performs inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn part
  • Performs plumbing repair works including leaking taps, leaking toilets
  • Performs electrical works including wiring, repair of machines, replacement of lighting
  • bulbs and bulb holders and maintenance of distribution boards
  • Ensures compliance to quality standards for handyman work.

Minimum Qualifications 

Education:          National Trade Test Grade 1, Diploma or Equivalent

Training:

  • Successful completion of a National Trade Test Electrical or Plumbing or Carpentry or bricklayer apprenticeship training program

Experience: 

  • Four years of or Plumbing, electrical, carpentry and bricklayer experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, or Other Qualifications

Should have Advanced knowledge of

  • Applicable hand and power tools and handyman equipment (e.g., plumbing rods, AVO meters, mega testers, trowels, floaters, screeds etc.)
  • Properties and characteristics of plumbing and/or electrical or brickwork materials
  • Plumbing, electrical, carpentry construction and brickwork repair and maintenance principles, theory, methods, and procedures
  • Use of safety equipment and protective gear
  • Applicable safety and code standards specific to all trades
  • Some knowledge of applicable City and department policies, procedures, rules, regulations
