Job Description

Institutional Background
Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego has been working in Malawi since 1999 implementing a wide-range of interventions in maternal health, family planning, HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment. Current projects include facility and community-based HIV testing services, and HIV prevention.

Jhpiego intends to recruit a suitable and qualified staff for the vacant position below:

Post: Procurement Officer (1 post based in Blantyre)

The Procurement Officer is responsible for providing procurement support to the Jhpiego Country office. This includes sourcing quotations, conducting negotiations with vendors, generating Purchase Orders and contracts, processing invoices for payments, filing procurement documentation and liaising with a cross section of stakeholders such as user departments and service providers on procurement requests. The procurement officer will be responsible for the day to day implementation of the procurement systems and procedures. She/he will work closely with the Procurement Manager to ensure timely acquisition of goods and services for the organization.


Required Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Competencies

  • University Degree in Procurement/ Supply Chain management or related field;
  • 5-6 years working experience at a similar position;
  • Must be a member of a procurement professional body;
  • Highly articulate in written and spoken English with effective communication
  • Highly articulate in written and spoken English with effective communication skills, instilling trust and confidence, and excellent interpersonal and written and oral presentation skills;
  • Abroad variety of administrative, office management and computer skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive and having a positive attitude to discharge responsibilities with minimal supervision;
  • Excellent organizational skills and having the ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines.
  • High integrity and a sense of confidentiality
  • Dependable, committed, flexible and willing to take extra responsibilities in order to achieve organizational goals.
  • Experience with USAID/CDC funded projects will be an added advantage.
