The Centre for Social Concern (CfSC) is a faith based Non-Governmental Organization established in 2002 by the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers). CfSC is part of a global network aiming at bringing about a just Society. Our mission is to foster a critical reflection on issues of social concern based on faith to generate informed action. The CFSC roadmap is to promote human dignity in solidarity through capable and dedicated leadership in faith communities, to be of service to society, especially the poorest members

Reporting to the director, the Economic Governance Program Officer will take the CfSC’s lead in promoting an economic system that helps Malawians, especially the poor, claim for the social-economic rights and attain their basic needs

Main Duties and responsibilities

  • Organise regular desk and field studies to track the impact of liberalization on trade relations both locally and internationally and how these influence the livelihoods of small producers
  • Conduct periodic data collection and analysis on selected budget issues to ensure an active and ongoing evidence-based engagement between the CFSC and government
  • Designing and modifying databases to effectively manage data relating to the various aspects of the program
  • To develop and implement advocacy strategy tools for taxation justice so that the stronger shoulders carry the heavier burden while the poor are enabled to rise out of poverty
  • Maintaining a close collaboration with leaders of faith communities at national, regional and district levels on economic and human rights issues through the provision of training and periodic newsletters
  • Preparing analytical quarterly and annual reports on the implementation of the program activities to assess impact as related to the program objectives
  • Oversee the debt contraction processes, implementation of debt related projects and how debt translates to reducing poverty and improving the welfare of Malawians
  • Organizing high level meetings and coordinates activities towards sustained enterprises and productive employment in the horticultural global value chains

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Social Science with a major in Economics, Development Economics, International Relations or any related qualification from a recognized institution
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in economic justice and governance issues, including practical experience in project planning and implementation
  • Knowledge and competency in various computer programs and databases such as MS word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and SPSS
  • Has strong skills in developing project proposals for funding and writing reports
  • Strong Communication, Interpersonal and analytical skills; and high levels of diplomacy
