The Malawi Research and Education Network (MAREN) is the officially recognized National Research and Education Network (NREN) of Malawi. Established in 2005 under the mandate of the Ministry of Education, MAREN serves as the backbone for the country’s academic and scientific community.

Founded by the University of Malawi and Mzuzu University, MAREN was born out of a strategic need to bridge the digital divide. Today, we empower higher education and research institutions by providing the high-speed connectivity and digital infrastructure necessary to access global electronic resources and foster international collaboration.
