Job Description

The Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) is a recognized global leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  In its work to eliminate paediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs, EGPAF currently supports national, district, and local governments, facilities, communities, and non-governmental partners in 15 countries. EGPAF supports service provision for comprehensive HIV care, treatment and prevention programs, and health systems strengthening.

EGPAF has worked in Malawi since 2001. Today, EGPAF Malawi implements evidence ‐ based HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions in 179 health facilities in eight districts through EGPAF’s U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief/U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (PEPFAR/CDC) ‐ funded Achieving HIV Epidemic Control through Scaling Up Quality Testing, Care and Treatment in Malawi.

Job title:                                  Cervical Cancer Program Nurse

Job Summary

The role of the Cervical Cancer Program Nurse is to coordinate and implement cervical cancer screening and management of precancerous lesions at supported facilities and to ensure that the program is integrated into the HIV and AIDS program both at facility and community level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide quality cervical cancer screening using visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA)
  • Provide appropriate management for women in need of further services such as treatment of pre-cancers of the cervix with cryotherapy or thermal coagulation
  • Strengthen referral and linkage with effective feedback loop to ensure that women who need the following services access them: histopathology, LEEP and other surgical interventions
  • Ensure effective and quality integration of HIV testing into the cervical cancer program and cervical cancer screening and follow up into the HIV program
  • Ensure that the cervical cancer program aligns to the Malawi national policy and guidelines
  • Ensure that quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) systems are fully integrated into the cervical cancer program
  • Coordinate demand creation for cervical cancer program through facilitation of health talks and community outreach activities
  • Coordinate facility-level capacity building through CMEs and on-job training
  • Support timely procurement of cervical cancer screening equipment and consumables
  • Support the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team to accurately document and analyze cervical cancer screening and HTS data and use data for timely decision making and to develop research questions
  • Participate in development of annual budgets and program reports

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Medicine
  • At least three years’ experience in implementation of cervical cancer program

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Experience in working with communities to mobilize support for health services
  • Experience in Reproductive Health issues in the context of HIV and AIDS will be an added advantage
  • Significant experience in the use of MS Office Suite
  • Significant experience in data analysis and reporting
  • Ability to uphold high degree of confidentiality
