Job Description

Blantyre Sports Club was established in 1896 and is situated right in the heart of the city of Blantyre. It is a great place to work, to sport, luncheon and dine or just to keep the kids amused among the many facilities offered. Blantyre Sports Club has a restaurant, bar, pool, gym, tennis and squash course and nine0hole golf course. Blantyre Sports Club is looking for an energetic, self-motivated and enthusiastic person to fill the position of General Manager tenable at the club`s premises in Blantyre.

Position: General Manager

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to Board Chairperson, the General Manager shall be responsible for managing the club`s business operations in an effective and sustainable manager, within the guidelines established by The Board. Maintaining and promoting a management philosophy that culminates in member satisfaction and employee engagement, while consistently achieving the mandates of the annual long term financial and strategic plans. Action decisions from the Baard in a timely, professional manner and provide support as well as monthly and other reports to ensure delivery of key business plan milestones, and to improve high performance of the club from all staff by making use of effective leadership and management skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • General management of all affairs of the club with the aim of delivering of the benefit of the members', safe and hygiene premises for the activities of the club including but not limitated to many types of sports, dining, relaxation and recreation.
  • To achieve high level of performance from all staff by utilizing effective leadership and management techniques.
  • To bring industry`s best practice to all areas of the club`s activities and play a pivotal role in delivering the club`s operational, financial and strategic goals.
  • To provide good communication to the club memebers and other key audiences.
  • To be the first point of contact for members and visitors and promote the club externally in a professional and friendly manner, enhancing the reputation of the club.
  • To manage all aspects and smooth running of the club or day to day basis.
  • To oversee the club`s financial reporting and controls in conjuction with the club`s Accountant.
  • To provide safe and clean environment for all children who visit the club with members or as invitees of members.
  • To ensure that formulation and implementation of procurement systems aimed at ensuring that only goods and services required by the Club are acquired and at the best possible prices.
  • Responsible for the development and custody of the vision, mission core values of the club.
  • To build, develop, manage and maintain effective relationships with members, sponsors, regulatory authorities etc.
  • To ensure monthly management accounts are prepared.
  • To prepare for the approval of the Board, a budget for each financial year of the club and operate within the parameters of such budget.
  • To prepare and submit to the Board or the Chairman written reports of nay unusual occurances causing or with the potential for causing damage or less to the club or any of the members.
  • To undertake general supervisoion of staff by maintaining a climate that attract retains and motivates to qulity personnel.
  • To ensure that any person employed by the club is in line with the club recruitmnent policy.
  • To ensure rthat every member of staff conducts themselves with due courtesy to every member of the club tand that disciplinary action is taken against any member of stsyff conducting themselves otherwise
  • To takle measures and ensure that no unqualified person is engaged to undertake work on any club assets.
  • To take measures in protecting club assets, equipment and machinery against pooer handling, damage and destruction.
  • To prepare and submit to the Board an Annual Capital Expenditure plan and budget and once approved, to ensure that all purcahes are in line with the same.
  • To take good care of any club asset assigned to his/her personal use and not take any such assets away from the club premises without the prior written authority of the Club Chairman.
  • To ensure an Asset Register for the club premise is prepared and maintained.
  • To carry out such other management duties as shall be conductive to the better performance ofg the club in terms pf delivery of services ro its members.
  • To ensure that the minutes of all Board meetings are a properly recorded and circulated.
  • To carry out a business plan and sales and marketing plan for the Board approval and once agreed to execute same.

QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge (Education & related experience)
  • Bachelor`s Degree in Business Administration / Accounting / Finance | Hospitality Management | Culinary Arts or Master`s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or its equivalent.
  • At least five (5) years hands on experience in the hospitality industry or similar position.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
