Job Description

Mangochi District Council, with funding from the Government of ICELAND is implementing a programme called Mangochi Basics Services Program (MBSP). MBSP is a four year programme that will be implemented till 2021 and its goal is to improve livelihood and socio-economic living conditions in rural communities of Mangochi District. Part of the financial support under the MBSPwill be used to recruit skilled personnel. Mangochi District Council is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant post tenable at Mangochi District Council.

POST: Nurse/ Midwife Technician — (12)

SALARY: Within the Grade K/M9 Government Salary

LOCATION: Mangochi District Council

RESPONSIBLE TO: District Nursing Officer


  • Provide quality Nursing care using the Nursing/Midwifery process.
  • Perform activities of daily living for the patients 24 hours/day.
  • Administers medication and treatment to patients and clients.
  • Assists in the rehabilitation of patient through the application of principles of prevention of deformities, range of motion exercises and body alignment.
  • Makes necessary preparation and after care of equipment for treatment.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patient care.
  • Uses appropriate communication skills during nursing care.
  • Collaborates with other health workers in meeting specific needs of the patients.
  • Adhere to standard precautions of infection prevention and control practices.
  • Builds therapeutic relationship with patients, guardians and fellow health workers.
  • Documents and maintains accurate records of all Nursing care activities performed.
  • Reports accurately individual patient care to ward in-charge or Doctor.
  • Conducts proper handover of all patients bed by bed or (according to ward Department Policy).
  • Maintains professional code of conduct at all times.
  • Actively participates in ward/departmental meetings and continuing education programs.
  • Assisting doctors during ward rounds, clinics and procedures.

  • Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery obtained from a recognized training institution.
  • Must be registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.
  • Must be up to date practice of Nursing and Midwifery duties
  • At least three years working experience in a busy setting.
