National Integrated Technologies Limited (NITEL), the premier provider of innovative solutions that simplify life, has an opportunity to recruit an individual with the smarts-talents package to help lead the Company’s organisation in development of new products, product enhancements and product redesign as the Applications and Product Development Manager.

In addition, the Applications and Product Development Manager will ensure flawless execution to market; and the mission to grow and scale NITEL’s enterprise applications and platform products business.

The position is tenable in its software engineering Applications and Product Development Division based at its Lilongwe Offices.

The job

The Applications and Product Development Manager is a Division-leading senior management level position with mission-critical impact on NITEL’s growth and scale acquisition strategy. Outline profile of this role is presented for context below.

Key Deliverables Include:

  • Execute NITEL’s applications development strategy including developing new products and enhancing existing products.
  • Provide hands on technical expertise from concept validation through to production sign-off, identifying, prioritizing and solving problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Select correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones.
  • Clearly articulate Design and Development Solutions and Challenges to multidisciplinary teams and executive level.
  • Apply Design Thinking to solve user problems, and translate these into Development projects.
  • Engage closely with other engineering teams to help determine the best technical implementation methods as well as a reasonable implementation schedule.
  • Meet or exceed all project Objective Key Results (OKRs) and related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and requirements by release or commissioning date.
  • Lead and partner with cross-functional peers to drive efficiencies and accountabilities.
  • Identify product extension opportunities and technology trends; and, define product evolution vision and strategy.
  • Manage software libraries, version control processes as well as other products critical to software engineering operations and development of software products.
  • Manage team performance and talent development with clear talent development plans in place and in line with corporate human capital development strategy.
  • Provide training and mentorship to less experienced engineers, share skills with other engineers.
  • Work as a team member and direct contributor on multiple projects of varying scope and complexity.

SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Extensive experience leading user-centered innovation projects
  • First rate knowledge and capabilities with multiple software development languages
  • Willingness to fail quickly and fail often to succeed sooner when exploring early product concepts
  • Experience allocating resources to work on multiple projects and setting clear priorities when juggling multiple projects
  • Understanding of other disciplines; including Design Thinking, User Experience, Analytics, Quality Assurance
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively through visualization and mockups
  • Open and collaborative style; must be comfortable working in an environment where ideas are shared and challenged.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or a related software engineering technical field.
  • 5 to 7 years of Product Design/ Development management experience.
  • Experience with product management or product design with a focus on software products and technologies.
  • Experience developing enterprise and Internet products and technologies.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing a team of creatives.
  • Process orientation; demonstrated ability to develop repeatable processes or improve existing processes in and out of product development.
  • Project management skills; will have demonstrated the ability to push projects over the finish line with sound planning and persistent execution; will understand how to align resources, seek the input of key constituents, and manage others to achieve desired results.

Preferred qualifications and experience:
  • Master of Science in computer science, Business Information Systems or related field.
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience building online payments and/or commerce products, and knowledge of global payments.
  • Experience with managing software libraries and products for software developers as well as development experience using various desktop and mobile app frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of workflow systems, 4th generation programming languages and database management systems.
  • Implementation National and International standards (IEEE Business/ Developer, Systems Analysis, PMBOK/ PRINCE2).
  • Knowledge of multiple functional areas such as Enterprise Architecture, Product Management, Network services, UX/UI, Systems Administration.
  • Understanding of go-to-market commerce enablers (e.g. licencing agreements, payments, loyalty, subscriptions.).
