Job Description

Export Development Fund (The Fund) is a development financial institution (DFI) registered in Malawi in 2012 under the Companies Act. The Fund was established to assist in realizing the Government’s national development goals specially broadening Malawi’s export base, increasing foreign exchange flows into the country and bolstering reserves. An exciting opportunity has risen and EDF therefore invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Risk and Compliance Manager tenable at its offices in Lilongwe.


Position: Risk and Compliance Manager


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design and implement an overall risk management process for the organization;
  • Conduct risk assessment, which involves analyzing risks as well as identifying, describing and estimating the risks affecting the organization;
  • Prepare risk evaluation, which involves comparing estimated risks with criteria established by the organization such as costs, legal requirements, environmental factors and risk appetite;
  • Prepare risk reports in an appropriate way for the different stakeholder audiences;
  • Review corporate governance and other organizational policies to ensure that they comply with best practice;
  • Ensure that company policies and procedures are being followed, and that behavior in the organization meets the company’s Standards of Conduct.
  • Conduct audits of policy and compliance to standards, including liaison with internal and external auditors;
  • Provide support, education and training to staff to build risk awareness within the organization;
  • Escalate high priority issues to Executive management and the Board;
  • Producing and submitting periodic risk management reports to Executive Management for consideration and approval for implementation.

Preferred Qualification, Experience and Attributes
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance, Economics, Law or any business related degree. Those with master’s degree in related field will have an added advantage;
  • Must have at least three (3) years’ experience in a similar role;
  • Banking experience particularly pertaining to compliance and risk management;
  • Should be energetic and sound decision maker;
  • Must be able to work under pressure and remain focused;
  • Possess sound knowledge and understanding of economics, corporate finance and risk management;
  • Have an understanding of latest ICT trends and cyber risk management tools and techniques; and
  • Must be a self-starter and able communicator.
