Job Description

Background and Purpose

Welthungerhilfe is one of the largest German non-governmental organisations in the area of development co-operation and emergency relief. Primarily in co-operation with local partner organisations, its task is to contribute to improvement in the nutritional and income basis for the low-income populations in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Welthungerhilfe has been implementing projects in Malawi continuously since 2013. Sector focus is on WASH, Food and Nutrition Security. Livelihoods and when necessary, Emergency response. 

Welthungerhilfe seeks to recruit the following position tenable in Dzaleka, Dowa

WASH Field Officer, Dzaleka

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper field management and community mobilization in the impact area of Welthungerhilfe’s (WHH) WASH project including coordination with all stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the formation or re-vamping of community health clubs and other relevant structures/committees in the camp.
  • Assist in planning, organizing and facilitating trainings, meetings and capacity building for Community Health Clubs, frontline and extension workers and other local partners within the WHH Project.
  • Conduct participatory community mobilization activities of the project in the targeted zones and conduct regular follow up visits to targeted zones to encourage and motivate the target schools to carry out project activities timely.
  • Conduct nutrition and WASH education activities in zones with focus on nutrition and hygiene behavioral change initiatives.
  • Reviewing project progress, achievements, challenges and lessons learnt on a monthly basis and maintain accurate records (documentation) of all project activities; prepare timely activity work plans and monthly project reports.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Head of Project.

Desired Skills and Qualifications 
  • Degree in Environmental Studies; Water Sanitation and Hygiene studies, Public Health or equivalent
  • At least three years of relevant professional experience in WASH sector
  • Previous management experience preferably in rural livelihoods and WASH with an international NGO.
  • Strong computer skills especially with Ms Word and Excel and other related packages.
  • Good team-worker; able to live and work closely with a small team with minimum direct supervision.
  • Commitment to international and humanitarian NGO codes, standards and practices
