Job Description

The Diocese of Mzuzu began as the Prefecture Apostolic of Northern Malawi which was erected on 18th May 1947. It became a full Diocese in 1961. The Diocese comprises of not only 15 parishes and all their subdivisions but also several commissions (Pastoral, Development, Justice and Peace, Health, Education, Communications, Liturgy, Catechetical), all of which promote holistic ministry. The Diocese of Mzuzu shares borders with the Archdiocese of Lilongwe in the southern and eastern provinces and the Diocese of Karonga in the Northern Province.

The Diocese continues to respond to the commands of the Lord, ‘Go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News’ (Mt 28: 18-20) and ‘as you go, preach, saying, ‘the kingdom of heaven is at hand’, (Matthew 10:7).

The Diocese is implementing its Strategic Plan (2017-2020) and looks to expand its operations and integrate more and more. The Diocese believes in the dignity of the human person, compassion & love with preferential option for the poor, transparency and accountability – among other values.

Applications are invited for suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following vacant position based at our sub office in Rumphi under Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM).

JOB TITLE : Zone Manager

REPORTS TO : CADECOM Coordinator

ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE TO : Diocesan Director of Social Development

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To ensure full facilitation in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of all projects being implemented in the catchment area of the Rumphi sub-office, Central deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu.

MAJOR TASKS AND ACTIVITIES

  • Plan, manage & coordinate implementation of all projects undertaken in the Central Deanery of the Diocese
  • Compile work plans, budgets and progress reports as required by management, donors and other partners.
  • Develop viable project proposals for CADECOM and the Diocese.
  • Work with partners to ensure the collection of relevant and appropriate data which is needed for effective planning, monitoring and evaluation system.
  • Documenting projects success stories, and lessons learnt in all project interventions
  • Build capacity of Diocesan program officers and other implementing partners in Strength Based Approach for effective implementation of the programmes/projects.
  • Facilitate cross learning of projects’ success stories.
  • Do any other duties as may be assigned by the management Team of CADECOM & the Diocese

REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, social sciences with emphasis/bias towards rural development, project management or any relevant field.
  • At least five years of professional experience in implementing/managing integrated development programming, with knowledge of practices in monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience implementing/managing programs related to HIV/AIDS, water, health and nutrition, agriculture or food security.
  • Demonstrated skills in M&E design with previous experience in application of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Committed Christian
  • Knowledge of Catholic Social Teaching & respect for the Catholic ethos
  • Knowledge and skills of varying computer packages
  • Community mobilization skills and techniques
