Job Description

World Relief is an international Christian NGO working in health, economic development, disaster response, and refugee resettlement. World Relief`s mission is empowering local churches to serve the most vulnerable.

World Relief Malawi is implementing a USAID funded SCOPE project which seeks to use and improve existing private and public health systems, working systems, working with health service providers to co-train community health actors and strengthen policies to improve access to services.

World Relief Malawi, through the SCOPE project, collaborates with key stakeholders to reduce preventable maternal health and child morbidity by increasing utilization of reproductive health services for women of reproductive age and utilization of primary health care services by under five children.

World Relief Malawi, therefore invites applications from interested and qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions:

Job Title : Assistant Accountants – (2 Positions)

Reports to : Project Accountant

Location : Lilongwe

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Project Accountant, the Assistant Accountant is responsible for providing accurate and timely reports, budget monitoring and preparing payments for all project transactions.

Specific Functions

  • Posting of financial transactions into quick books system.
  • Providing guidance and support to all project staff on finance matters.
  • Ensure expenditure at the district is authorized within budget and in line with organization policies.
  • Maintaining Petty cash, advances and Fixed asset schedules.
  • Banking and documenting all transitions in line with World Relief Finance Manual.
  • Monthly bank reconciliation.
  • Supporting the audit process.
  • Timely preparation of monthly and quarterly grant reports.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Accounting Proven Experience in fund-based accounting.
  • 3 years of related experience preferably in NGO set up.
  • Experience in the use of quick books.
  • High level computer skills and experience using the following: MS Excel, MS Word.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and local languages.
  • Commitment to world Relief Values.
