Job Description

Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM), affiliated to Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit Christian organization aiming at improving housing conditions in Malawi. HFHM was established in 1986 and has assisted over 41,000 families through different housing solutions. in addition to housing, HFHM has undertaken water and sanitation projects in pert-urban areas of Lilongwe, Chikwawa and zuzu.

Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM) is in the process of recruiting volunteers, interns and temporary staff to support Disaster Risk Response and Reduction (DRRR), Volunteer Relations, WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEAL) and Finance departments

Disaster Risk Response and Reduction (DRRR) Volunteers and Interns

Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM) is promoting HFH Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Mission, which is to develop innovative housing and shelter assistance models that generate sustainable interventions for people that are vulnerable to or affected by disasters. In addition, HFH builds capacity for the Global Habitat Community in various areas including Disaster Mitigation. Preparedness, Response and recovery through education, training and partnership. In view of this, HFHM is recruiting interns who will learn various aspects of disaster management through practical experience in the field where construction of resilient houses and related training are conducted.

Department: Programs

Reporting: The Interns will report to the Field Officer

Duty Station: Chikwawa District

Main responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of weekly plans according to program implementation plan.
  • Write weekly reports on activities conducted.
  • Assist in organising meetings and trainings at various levels and take minutes during the meetings.
  • Assist the Field Officer to identify and document relevant success stories from project beneficiaries.
  • Where necessary, provide relevant professional support to all protect related person.

Educational Qualification

  • Malawi School Certificate of Examination (MSCE) and a minimum of 2 years’ study towards a Bachelor’s Degree in a Disaster Related Field
