Job Description

WASTE is a non-profit consultancy firm specialized in sanitation in emerging markets. WASTE Advisers, in partnership with several partners have implementing waste management projects across the country. WASTE Advisers have a proven record of innovation and creating enabling environment for sanitation business to flourish.

To expand our efforts in this, WASTE Malawi would like to engage with a Project Manager based in Lilongwe for a fixed period of 23 months with the possibility of renewal.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Our candidate should be a person minded and proven manager who have extensive management and development experience in Malawi and Southern Africa.
  • He/ she should have minimal 5 years of experience in the field of sanitation as project manager.
  • He/she should be business minded and affinity with entrepreneurs and the private sector as a whole.

His/her skills should include:

  • Meeting Obligations: contracts, planning, reporting, staff, partners
  • Measuring Progress: objectives, finance, hours, results, milestones.
  • Staff utilisation: hours, input (capabilities), coaching, conflict management.
  • Manage Finance: reports, prognosis, re-allocation, budget depletion.
  • Deliver Quality: sustainability, results (quantitative, qualitative) client satisfaction.
  • Communicate Effectively: reports, planning, interne meetings, extern reports, letters, emails, skype, style, updating management, communicating/documenting about decisions.
  • Steering Appropriately: steering based on results, taking decisions,
  • Coaching Generously: coaching and accountability,
  • Documenting & Archiving: decisions, minutes of meetings (external and internal), procedures (Approval sheets), reports, etc.

Key responsibilities

  • Attend to a good project implementation plan.
  • Communicate and negotiate the project implementation plan.
  • Obtain approval for the project plan and/or deviations from the client (if applicable).
  • Negotiate with the client during the project period.
  • Reports progress to TG, MT and client.
  • Sees to external and internal communication.
  • Takes daily decisions.
  • Chair the project meetings.
  • Sees to good motivation within the project team.
  • Solve conflicts.
  • Keeps project members out of the wind during conflicts with the outside.
  • Sees to the division of works within the project team.
  • Watches the planning, budget, realisation of the objectives and quality.
  • Monitors deadlines, milestones etc and acts accordingly
  • Pre-describes the aids and techniques to be used.
  • Takes decisions concerning content.
  • Reporting
  • Approved expenses and bills.
  • Issuing contract and maintenance of contracts & procedures.
