Job Description

The Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu is an Apostolic See of the Catholic (2). Church in Malawi; and started as an Apostolic Prefecture in 1947: and was raised to status of Diocese in 1961. The Diocese covers the whole of Mzimba, Nkhatabay & Likoma Districts and large parts of Rumphi District as well as Nkhotakota North and Kasungu North

The Diocese is implementing a Strategic Plan (SP) of 2017 – 2022. In its SP, the Diocese has three strategic pillars i.e. Pastoral Care and Development; Human and Social Development and Institutional Development i e. Finance, Investment and Administration.

The Human and Social Development pillar’s Strategic Goal is to promote sustainable socioeconomic development among individuals, families and communities in the Diocese of Mzuzu”.

To achieve this goal, the pillar has four developmental commissions i.e Catholic Development Commission (CADECOM); Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP); Mzuzu Diocese Health Commission (MDCHC) and Diocese of Mzuzu Education Commission (DOMEC)

DOMEC is implementing different projects in Mzuzu Diocese as well as playing oversight role on primary & secondary schools within the Diocese’s jurisdiction. On of such projects is School Access & Governance Improvement (SAGI) Project with funding from Misean Cara – Ireland.

POSITION: PROJECTS OFFICER (1)

REPORTS TO: Diocesan Education Coordinator

ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE TO : Diocesan Director of Social Development

The persons taking up these opportunities will lead in fulfilling the education commission’s strategic objective i.e. to improve access to and quality of education at all levels in the Diocese”.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Among others, some of the main duties include, but not limited to the following:

  • Plan, manage & facilitate implementation of all projects undertaken by DOMEC in the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu.
  • Facilitate training of communities and schools
  • Work with government, priests, appropriate education committees in the Diocese and other stakeholders to ensure project implementation as per Detailed Implementation Plans
  • Compile/Develop work plans and progress reports as required by management, donors and other partners.
  • Compile, consolidate and submit monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual reports to the project supervisors and other stakeholders
  • Prepare project budgets to ensure sound financial monitoring and accountability.
  • Mobilize communities to participate in identification of community needs in the project area.
  • Develop viable project proposals for DOMEC and the Diocese.
  • Work with partners to ensure the collection of relevant and appropriate data which is needed for effective planning, monitoring and evaluation system which will be utilised in the monitoring of strengths, weakness and gaps in the existing programs and services required.
  • Documenting projects success stories, and lessons learnt in all project interventions
  • Working with building supervisor in monitoring and evaluation of construction projects
  • Perform any other dunes as assigned by management from time to time.

REQUIREMENTS

Among other requirements, we ore looking for a person with the following attributes:

  • Bachelor of Arts/Science in Education with experience in Project management, or Social/ Development Science , Protect Management and/or any other related field with appropriate experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related field
  • Proven experience in project proposal development, project implementation as well as protect monitoring and evaluation will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills very essential
  • A committed Christian
  • Knowledge and skills of varying computer packages -very essential
  • Good communication & coordination skills – a must
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Social Teachings is a must Ind working within the Catholic ethos
  • Understanding the Catholic Church Hierarchy essential.
  • Knowledge of and skills in different computer packages
