Job Description

Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM), affiliated to Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit Christian organization aiming at improving housing conditions in Malawi. HFHM was established in 1986 and has assisted over 41,000 families through different housing solutions. in addition to housing, HFHM has undertaken water and sanitation projects in pert-urban areas of Lilongwe, Chikwawa and zuzu.

Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM) is in the process of recruiting volunteers, interns and temporary staff to support Disaster Risk Response and Reduction (DRRR), Volunteer Relations, WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEAL) and Finance departments

Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Volunteers and Interns

In addition to other programmes, Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM) is promoting Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programs. The mission for the WASH program is to provide communities and schools with access to safe water sources, improved sanitation and hygiene. In addition, HFHM builds capacity for various community and institutional structures through trainings and promotions. In view of this, HFHM is recruiting interns who will learn various aspects of WASH management through practical experience in the field and district level.

Reporting : The Intern will report to the Field Officer

Duty Station: Lilongwe District

Main responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of weekly plans according to program implementation plan.
  • Write weekly reports on activities conducted
  • Assist in organising meetings and trainings at various levels ,ind sake minutes during the meetings.
  • Assist the Field Officer tn identify and document relevant success stories from project beneficiaries.
  • Where necessary, provide relevant professional support to all project related person.

Educational Qualification

  • Malawi School Certificate Examination (MSCE) and a minimum of 2 years’ study towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Water Resources Management/ Environmental Health and any water Related Field.

Skills and Competencies Required

  • Ability to demonstrate integrity by modelling HFHM’s values and ethical standards.
  • Promote the vision, mission and strategic goals of HFHM
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
